Why OpenNICTA?

Open source is arguably the most significant movement in the software world of the past decade. Its impact and importance to organisations of all sizes is unquestionable, and it continues to grow.

OpenNICTA is an online portal designed to promote all of NICTA's licensed open source software, making NICTA-developed software readily available to the external market in one location. The portal also demonstrates our values of openness and collaboration by encouraging other researchers to access and contribute to NICTA research and ideas in an open platform.

As Australia’s ICT Research Centre of Excellence, we at NICTA are committed to the ongoing support of open source software, both as a business enabler and as a foundation for research and innovation.  One of our spin-out companies, Open Kernel Labs, has its open source software deployed in more than 250 million handsets and other mobile devices worldwide and there are several other NICTA Research Projects that have open source software at their heart.
